Wine tasting tour
Surrounded by three fields, Vrgorac’s location is ideal for agricultural production.
Jezero field (translated Lake) was once lake which was dried 80 years ago and from then it is place for many agricultural crops. The perfect harmony of nature and hard work, in this picturesque natural environment where colors, smells and tastes reign, and where tradition and production has been preserved. With over 11 million wine vines Jezero is the largest vineyard in Croatia with several native sorts of grape. Except grape there are plantations of different Mediterranean fruits like peach, plum, watermelon, nectarine, apple and much more. We will drive alongside Matica, roam between vineyards and make stop that you can taste one of the most famous products of Vrgorac.
Vrgorska Zlatarica is a white vine native sort of the Vrgorac area. Once almost extinct, today it deservedly holds a place among the most praised wines in Croatia. Light body, beautiful aroma, distinct minerality, this white wine leaves no one indifferent and is a real refreshing summer drop.
Plavka is one of the most widespread sorts in Dalmatia, it found its home in the Vrgorac area also, where it gave the best results. The first and only top quality wine made from this sort comes from this field, to the pride of local winemakers and locals. Plavka is an atypical red wine of Dalmatia, very drinkable, harmonious, with distinct fruity aromas and slightly accentuated acids that give it an unusual edibleness. Because of these things, its consumption is recommended both in winter and summer.
Trnak, a sort that for now has no proven relative in the whole world. Very resistant, above average quality, this vine sort has a predisposition to produce one of the best Croatian red wines. Expressed tannins, stronger body, dark, almost black color, this wine is perfectly characterized by the Dalmatian karst from which it is born.
In this wine tasting tour you will have the opportunity to try all these wines, accompanied with homemade prosciutto, olive oil, cheese and bread. Our wonderful host and winemaker will gladly tell you everything about wine production in Vrgorac area, history of the fields and sorts and future plans with wine production in the area.
